ACPPA Community Art Center works throughout Norristown and Montgomery County to bring arts education programming to community organizations, afterschool programs, and public and private schools. Their mission is to provide access to opportunities that use art as a tool for increasing positive self-development and community revitalization. Some of their programs include:

  • Studio Arts, which provides access to intensive explorations of chosen art disciplines in a collaborative environment with professional teaching artists. Professional art technique classes ranging from visual arts to dance, theater, and music are provided. Classes focus on exploring the creative process, allowing students to work at their own pace and creating work that is true self expression.
  • Family Art Workshops, which seeks to actively engage families in activities that promote creative problem solving and build stronger family bonds and communications. Led in partnership with Bryn Mawr College's Art Club, these workshops offer families a unique experience to create and explore art together.
  • Community Partnership Program, which seeks to increase access to community based arts education for underserved youth and strengthen delivery of curriculum or programming of hosting facility.
  • Creative Alternatives is a free, safe-haven afterschool program serving at risk youth ages 12-18 addressing anti-social behavior through participant led arts explorations.
  • Community Mural Project engages the diverse population of Norristown in creating art that depicts their collective voice while strengthening interpersonal connection. Working side by side, community members create a series of murals that captures their conversations as friendships are born and trust is garnered.

Founded on the principles and practices of Theatre-In-Education and Drama-In-Education, Norristown Educational Theatre or N.E.T. places an emphasis on bringing theatre to the audience. Whether in the classroom, library, community room or cafeteria, N.E.T. will provide a performance opportunity to enhance and expand the curriculum.

Theatre can be used as a tool to teach across the curriculum and N.E.T. prides itself on the use of innovative techniques to support the teacher, the student and the learning experience. While our general focus is on literature, history, and social issues, we are always striving to create new educational opportunities for both the teacher and the student.
