COMMUNITY & NEIGHBORHOOD
Norristown avails individuals and families limitless opportunities to live, work and play.

Norristown is home to a housing stock rich in tradition and history. From charming row homes to Victorian Mansions, there is affordable housing for everyone. A housing boom occurred at the onset of the 21st Century and new housing construction can be seen in every neighborhood, often attracting individuals and families from as far and wide as New York to take advantage of what Norristown has to offer.

Norristown is home to a regional transportation center consisting of rail and bus lines. This allows for affordable, quick and convenient transportation to Center City, Philadelphia or the surrounding business areas for commuters. Route 202 runs through the Municipality allowing for convenient highway access and transportation ease. The Lafayette Street Expansion Project will make highway travel to and from Norristown easier and more convenient than it currently is.

Located within the Municipality is the “Zoo within your own backyard,” the Elmwood Park Zoo. (www.elmwoodparkzoo.org) Adjacent to the Zoo is Elmwood Park, home to such amenities as the Bandshell, Bocci Ball Court, softball fields and picnic groves.

One could journey to Martin Luther King Jr. Park and experience the walking trail; bike, jog or walk the Schuylkill River Trail that passes through the Municipality or fish with the Stony Creek Anglers Association. There is also the choice of visiting any of the neighborhood “pocket” parks to simply relax and unwind.

There are several activities to occupy one’s time in Norristown. From a vast array of shops and services in the Downtown to the Historic West Marshall Street Shopping District to the numerous parks and amenities to the historic architecture, one can experience firsthand the reason why Norristown is an exciting place to live, work and play.
