Programs
The Recreation Department provides programs for children and adults throughout the year.
-
Norristown Bocce League hosts numerous tournaments during the summer months—usually held free of charge. These tournaments create fun, community-oriented events for hundreds of participants—and, in keeping with the traditional social elements of the game, almost always include food and beverage. Leftover food is donated to a local food bank.
-
Norristown PAL is a non-profit, volunteer organization serving the youth and families of the Greater Norristown community with recreational, educational, and cultural programs addressing citizenship, self-esteem, avoidance of substance abuse, and respect for law and order.
Since 1976, Greater Norristown PAL (GNPAL) has served thousands of area youth in a variety of programs. In 2005, the GNPAL moved into the old Stewart National Guard Armory building near the Elmwood Park/zoo/sports complex, and the building is now called the Greater Norristown PAL Center.
