NPD is Genuinely Committed

By Captain Rich Clowser

If you follow us on social media you have noticed a recent change. We have added our new slogan “Genuinely Committed”. This is more than just words to the hard working officers and professional staff of the Norristown Police Department. It is a way of doing business. Nothing has really changed but we want to make it clear to everyone that we are “Genuinely Committed” to providing professional policing to the Norristown Community. And you should not expect anything less.

So what does “genuinely committed” mean? To NPD it means we are committed beyond the regular duties of public safety and law enforcement that most police departments provide. We are constantly evolving and looking for ways to more effectively meet the needs of our community. We will continue to improve the safety and quality of life of the Norristown Community through innovative and proven crime reduction strategies.

NPD will accomplish this by building on what we have put in place over the past five years. Increasing our legitimacy by treating everyone with dignity and respect to develop stronger relationships with the community. Providing fair and equitable service at all times. Being transparent and communicating in a way that enhances safety. Through collaboration, not only with community leaders and residents, but with other service organizations as well to offer residents the resources they may need.  `

We have proven our commitment to the community in several ways. We hold ourselves accountable to reducing crime and improving the quality of life for Norristown through our bi-weekly Compstat meetings. This is our report card, our way of ensuring what needs to get done is getting done. NPD hosts a variety of events such as Coffee or Water Ice with a Cop to break down barriers and openly discuss concerns of residents. We are in the final weeks of our annual Citizens Police Academy that provides a behind the scenes experience of the police department and engagement with our officers and professional staff. Most recently we completed our first of many Teen and Police Service (TAPS) Academies at the Norristown Area High School. A mentorship program that reduces the social distance between at-risk youth and law enforcement. We are embarking on an Adopt a Block initiative where supervisors are adopting specific blocks throughout the community and will work with that neighborhood to make it better. These are just some of the things we are dedicating resources to to show that we are genuinely committed to the Norristown Community.

The Norristown Police Department is “Genuinely Committed”. We are here to serve the Norristown Community. We want our community to be safe, and improve the quality of life for our residents. Let us serve you with dignity, respect, integrity, and fairness.
