Norristown Municipality Announces Commitment to

100% Clean, Renewable Energy by 2050

Norristown, Pennsylvania – Last night, the Municipal Council of Norristown voted to approve a resolution committing Norristown to shift away from fossil fuels and pledge to transition the community towards 100 percent clean, renewable energy by 2050. With the passage of Resolution 19-115, Norristown becomes the 116th ready for 100 community nationwide.

The Municipal Council’s resolution builds off of the local Ready for 100 campaign in Montgomery County and sees Norristown joining the growing number of municipalities in establishing a vision for powering local communities with clean and renewable sources of energy like wind and solar.

The resolution is a proposal by Keep Norristown Beautiful, the local Norristown affiliate of the national non-profit Keep America Beautiful, and is designed to raise public awareness of local sustainability issues and empower residents to make a difference in their community. “This is a watershed moment for Norristown and the entire region, as more and more communities recognize the need to work together for a more sustainable future,” said Norristown’s Municipal Administrator Crandall Jones.

“I’m pleased to see the Council and Municipality taking this step forward in affirming Norristown’s commitment to clean, renewable energy. This resolution and the Ready for 100 campaign highlights the importance of ensuring that local energy production is both affordable and environmentally responsible. We all want to a sustainable future for younger generations, and this step continues us in that direction” remarked Council President Sonya Sanders.

The Ready for 100 campaign is a movement of the Sierra Club to encourage community leaders to attain 100% clean renewable energy in order to promote healthier communities.
