[ARCHIVED] RFPs go out to redevelop core downtown Norristown site

Corner of Main and DeKalb streets

For immediate release Nov. 20, 2020

The Municipality of Norristown, partnering with the Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority (RDA), is seeking a qualified developer to redevelop a site in downtown Norristown into an impactful, creative mixed-use property.

The RDA and the Municipality released a Request for Proposals for development of the corner lot at Main and DeKalb streets on Nov. 9 and is accepting submissions through Feb. 15, 2021.

“The RDA is excited to partner with the Municipality of Norristown on the continued revitalization of downtown Norristown,” said RDA Executive Director Rebecca Swanson. “We look forward to assisting the Municipality and the selected developer in creating an economically-viable project that will be a catalyst for future growth in Norristown.”

The Main and DeKalb location offers a unique opportunity for ground-up development on ten contiguous parcels totaling approximately .8 acres. The site sits in the heart of downtown Norristown, close to transit, county offices, new residential buildings, and ongoing development and reuse projects including the over-$400 million construction of the Montgomery County Justice Center (slated for Main Street between DeKalb and Swede streets).

“The development of this key site in Norristown has been a goal of the Municipality for decades.   The Council has been focused on a mixed-use project here to spur downtown development,” said Municipal Council President Derrick Perry.

The RFP can be found on the RDA’s website, www.montcopa.org/redevelopmentauthority. For more information, email Rebecca Swanson at rswanson@montcopa.org
