NORRISTOWN- The Municipality of Norristown, the Norristown Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Norristown NAACP, ACLAMO Family Centers, the Sigma Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Montgomery County are teaming up with the East Norriton Pharmacy to have a vaccine clinic at Norristown Municipal Hall on March 27 to administer 1,000 doses of the COVID vaccine.
The clinic will be open only to residents of the municipality with an emphasis to reach people 65 years of age or older who have not yet been vaccinated.
In recognition that there is a digital divide among many seniors, paper applications are required to receive a vaccine, and they are only available from March 23 – 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Municipal Hall (235 E. Airy St.) and ACLAMO Family Centers (512 W. Marshall St.). The Greater Norristown NAACP also has vaccine applications and they can be reached at 610-316-2340. Identification will be required upon application pick-up to ensure residency in the municipality. There is no application available online. Completed applications must be brought with the applicant to Municipal Hall on the day of the clinic.
Walk-up registrations for the vaccine will not be accepted on March 27.
The vaccine being provided will require two doses. After the first dose is administered on March 27, each person must commit to coming back to another vaccine clinic at Municipal Hall on April 17 to get the second dose. Paperwork and second dose information will be provided when people check-out from the clinic after getting the first dose.
The 1,000 first doses being administered will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., averaging 100 doses per hour for the day. The person receiving the vaccine will have a designated timeframe listed on their application to report to Municipal Hall. Those getting the vaccine may park in the municipal parking lot across the street from Municipal Hall, or use the county parking lot up the street at Airy and DeKalb streets. Accommodations for persons who are disabled or handicapped can be made.
“We are thankful to have connections with these Norristown area organizations and small businesses to provide another avenue for our most vulnerable residents to get the COVID vaccine,” said Norristown Council President Derrick Perry.
