NORRISTOWN- A multi-agency initiative designed to cultivate seasonal, and even permanent, work opportunities for high school students this summer is gearing up for late April.

The Norristown Police Department is working in partnership with the Norristown Area School District, MontcoWorksNow, Chick-Fil-A, and other agencies and businesses for a Youth Job Fair to be hosted at Norristown Area High School on April 27, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (Previously scheduled for April 26.)

It is NPD’s desire that students will be successful using this job fair to find work during the summertime, promote positive engagement, and offer personal and professional growth opportunities. This fair is designed to help students with their long-term goals, engage their potential, and set a positive course for their future.

“The Norristown Police Department is excited about the Youth Job Fair. It is a mutually beneficial program for businesses and youth; business can fill their vacancies with our eager, intelligent, motivated, and talented youths. Most importantly, our youth will gain invaluable experience and develop their professional skills, including responsibility, organization, and time management. These are skills they will undoubtedly use for the rest of their lives.” Chief Derrick E. Wood explained about the program.

“It is extremely important to provide our youth with a sense of purpose and responsibility. It gives our youth something to do and think about when school is out and hopefully provides a framework for the rest of their lives,” added Norristown Police Lt. Michael Bishop. “Providing young men and women with an opportunity to earn money, experience a work environment, and possibly set a course for their entire future are just some of the goals we hope to see from this job fair.”

Prior to the job fair, two highly informative training sessions will take place. At these sessions, students will receive formal instructions on resume preparation, job search strategies, and interview skillsJanice Coleman, President/CEO of JCC Unlimited, LLC, and life/executive coach, will facilitate the training sessions on March 28 and 29 at Norristown Area High School. These sessions are being co-sponsored by Chick-fil-A East Norriton and Kingdom Culture Christian Center.

MontcoWorksNow and PA CareerLink Montgomery County are the two agencies coordinating potential employers for the fair. There is room available for up to 40 businesses that wish to participate. Local small businesses are especially encouraged to take part.
