[ARCHIVED] Free steering wheel locks for Norristown residents who own Kia, Hyundai cars

lock

Norristown Police Department has received free steering wheel locks that will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis to Norristown residents with certain cars that have been the target of thefts.

Officers will distribute one free lock for each Kia (model years 2011-2022) and Hyundai (model years 2015-2022) vehicle a resident owns. Residents will be asked to prove residency and proof of ownership of the affected vehicle in order to receive a lock.

Norristown Police will keep a log to verify that only one lock is given out to each affected vehicle and to ensure that said vehicle has not been declared stolen.

The need for these steering wheel locks comes amid a growing viral trend regarding the theft of Kia and Hyundai cars. Norristown Police put out notices in December about this growing trend, and the number of reported thefts has decreased. The locks are a proactive way to continue to prevent further thefts.

Locks may be picked up without reservation at the police department at 235 E. Airy St. as supplies last.
