[ARCHIVED] Norristown Fire Department Prepares for Fire Prevention Week

Norristown Fire Logo

NORRISTOWN, PA – The Norristown Fire Department has a full week of activities planned for fire prevention week which is observed from October 8-14 this year.

Prevention initiatives include fire drills at all of the public and parochial schools in the municipality, as well as daycares, and fire drills at several larger buildings in town. Firefighters will also be participating in several programs at the Montgomery County Public Library including reading to children’s classes and showing off equipment. Firefighters will also be out canvassing neighborhoods to install free smoke detectors to residents and checking existing detectors during evening hours.

The week concludes Saturday with a smoke detector blitz in the morning with our partners from Musselman Learning Center, and once again we partnered with our friends at Elmwood Park Zoo to provide fire safety material and show off our equipment to all. We will be set in the parking lot from noon to 3 p.m. by the main entrance so you don’t have enter the zoo to stop by and say hello!

A reminder to municipal residents – you can have free smoke detectors installed in your home by calling the smoke detector hotline at 610-270-2870.
